ABOUT CEAS™ III: PRACTICE & MANAGEMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL ERGONOMICS CERTIFICATION

This advanced-level course was designed specifically for The Back School and provides an advanced ergonomics assessment methodology. Designed by a Certified Professional Ergonomist, the course will teach participants to recognize, analyze, and recommend cost-effective ergonomics changes to the workplace, machines, hand tools, and work methods. Participants will also understand what drives customers to request professional ergonomics services.

This course provides concepts and principles of occupational ergonomics, especially as related to the manufacturing environment but also applicable in the office and healthcare workplaces. 16 contact hours.

There are no prerequisites for this course. You are not required to be CEAS™  or CEAS™ II  Certified before taking this course. 

At the successful completion of this course you will be awarded your certification designating you as a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist III (CEAS™ III).

Objectives:

  • Understand the basics of industry and how ergonomics integrates into production and assembly processes
  • Review key preparation issues for an on-site visit
  • Understand how layout, equipment and work processes influence musculoskeletal disorders and how to prevent them through ergonomics in design
  • Understand workplace design using the principles of anthropometry, reach envelopes, sit/stand/sit-lean options
  • Use anthropometry tables for evaluation and design criteria
  • Understand ergonomics design principles for manual materials handling tasks

Our online course makes it easy to learn at your own pace, on your own schedule. You will:

  • View the Workshop Presentation Modules
  • Take and pass a 100-question exam with a 90% correct score
  • Submission of the two sets of the 4-page worksheets - one for an industrial and one for an office job.

  • A written report for each one of the jobs - one industrial and one office job. Reports should be similar to example included in the course presentation.

After completing the Course Evaluation, your course work submissions will be personally reviewed by an instructor, who will provide written feedback. You will be notified via email when your Certification has been approved. Your Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist™  III (CEAS™  III) Certificate will then become available to download as a PDF and you will receive 1.6 CEUs (16 contact hours).

  • Apply the NIOSH Lifting Guideline and push/pull graphs for manual material handling evaluations

  • Examine the 6-step ergonomics problem solving process to develop successful solutions specific to the needs of your clients

  • Report cost-effective ergonomics changes to the work area, machine and hand tools, and work methods

  • Confirm the certification process for professional ergonomists

  • Outline the elements of an effective and professional client report

  • Demonstrate competency through the completion of 2 case studies and a comprehensive written exam

Marty Frame is a licensed physical therapist who has spent most of her career working with patients with industrial injuries. She has extensive experience in functional capacity evaluations, work hardening/conditioning and ergonomics. She has worked on-site with patient treatment and injury prevention at Fortune 500 companies including Frito Lay Inc, Siemens, Ford, Lockheed, MeadWestvaco and Cenveo in addition to many smaller employers in the greater Atlanta area.

Marty is currently president of Physical Therapy Specialists, Inc. in Stone Mountain, Georgia.  Her current practice is limited to performing ergonomic assessments in healthcare, office and manufacturing environments, Functional Capacity Evaluations and Impairment Ratings.  She is also the ergonomic consultant for Northside Hospital.

Marty received her BS degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University, her MS in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine and her MBA from Emory University. She is a member of the APTA and the Occupational Health Special Interest Group. She also regularly participates with the Atlanta Applied Ergonomics Network.

MODULE 3: THE ERGONOMICS PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS

  • Step-by-step Ergonomics Problem Solving Process
